SAINT ROMBLE IN SANCERRE

OUR HISTORY

1954

Our origins

Created by Louis VATTAN in the 19th century, the domaine originally covered just a few hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir vines, and the later was expanded by his grandson Paul VATTAN who joined the Domaine in 1954 when he was just 14 years old. Paul was deeply attached to his terroir and worked tirelessly to develop his vineyards which now covers 12.5ha, using winemaking practices that respect these 100% clay-limestone soils (locally called ‘Terres Blanches’). Paul was a passionate winemaker and he implemented a methodical winemaking practice (careful selection of vine stocks, pruning method that respects sap flows, meticulous caring of the vines) that are still in place at the Domaine today.

The present day

The art of cultivation and a passion for the Sancerre wine region continue to guide and motivate us in our winemaking. From Paul VATTAN to Damien LAURENT, the same desire to keep the Domaine’s ‘savoir-faire’ alive is what drives us. Our wines are the ultimate expression of our origins. To taste them is to love them as, after all, they have been created with you in mind !

Our wines

“The wines we produce are wines that we ourselves love to drink, wines characterized by their finesse, precision and elegance.”

With their freshness, their notes of citrus fruits, their crystal-clear hue and delicate golden glimmers, our Sancerre wines have been created especially for you. But before being unveiled to you, they have first been cultivated by us. When our wines leave the Domaine and make their way through the winding roads of Sancerre, onto the motorway or crossing oceans even, to reach you in France or on the other side of the world, it really does feel as if a part of ourselves is leaving with them. Thanks to you, we are able to travel the world without having to leave our beautiful Loire region. You are our ambassadors !
